Installation

There are three ways to set up your shopping cart:

Setup

Shopping carts after the intial install often come with an inbuilt user friendly interface that will allow an administrator to add categories, products, upload images and text that will all be stored in a database, created during the installation.

Payment Methods

Paypal

By far one of the simplest ways for you and your customers to make payments online. Credit cards payments can be paid directly through the paypal website. Most shopping carts have recognised how popular paypal is and created modules / addons that are easily configurable.
Paypal does charge a fee to the receiver of funds only, as a percentage on the total amount. More details can be found on the paypal website. Paypal is one of the most popular, widely used programs available for online payment and trusted by millions worldwide.

Ecommerce Payments

Direct Bank Deposits

Online banking in Australia has come along way in the last few years. Most, if not all banks now offer an online direct deposit transfer. Funds can be paid into your bank account for both goods an services normally within a 24 hour period. Many Australians prefer using this method for online payments as it can be achieved relatively quickly without the use of a credit card.

Money Order

Available through Australia post money orders also give online customers an extra payment option. The downside to this type of payment method is the time in which it takes to transfer payment.

Cheque

Can also be easily made available. The negative once again is the time is takes for the cheque to not only be posted, but clear. Customers need to be informed before purchasing products that both money orders and cheques do take time to clear and items or services will be despatched once the funds have been cleared.

Postage

Postage is also an area of significant importance for any online store. Calculated normally by weight and location it's important to know how much it will cost you to post a product to a customer. Obviously postage varies significantly when sending overseas. Once again, a good shopping cart often includes and addon / module to organise your postage rates automatically.

Australian Post is the largest and most reliable network used in Australia normally taking a few days to complete standard deliveries right around Australia. The next thing to think about is express post and postage insurance.

Express post is said to be much faster than the regular post network but a premium is charged for using this network. Offering the option on your website for both regular or express post and charging accordingly is a good idea.

Postage insurance basically covers you for a particular amount in case your item is lost or stolen in the postage process. If you are sending expensive or bulk items postage insurance should definently not be overlooked.
